North Seattle Residence
A new landscape was required for this restored 1950’s modern home whose yard had grown up around it. The site contained a variety of beautiful rhododendron and Japanese maple specimens – but they needed to be found, transplanted, and designed around. The design concept uses materials as they are without cladding in order to be in keeping with the house itself. Pisa II block walls and natural colored pavers create a series of outdoor entertaining spaces that connect the interior with the yard and beyond to the creek below. An ironwood trellis was built to outline the outdoor living room. Lighting on this site has dramatically improved visibility from the street, safety, and the experience of the drama of the surrounding woods at night.
