Lake Washington Residence
The goals of this project were to add a sun patio to extend the livable space near the house, to create easier access to the boat dock below, and to diversify the plantings on the sloping beds. The existing slopes were over 8% in grade and covered in grass which made them slippery and dangerous when wet. The redesign minimizes the slope with the use of huckleberry risers as steps. Sand-set bluestone paths and patios incorporate woolley thyme in all of the joints to maintain a softer, green look throughout. A grander set of steps leads from the lawn below to the boat dock. The result is an easily navigable path that maintains a soft, landscaped look and a large patio for sunning and fires in the evening.
